Through the lense of her medium format camera, Ann-Kathrin Müller takes us along for a journey to a seismological station, built in the 1960s, somewhere in Eastern Germany. The black-and-white photographs depicting the interior of the seismological station and its surroundings, evoke a haunting atmosphere. Accompanied by Judith Engel’s short prosaic pieces, a dialogue is formed between the images and the text. »Das Signal« questions a clear-cut rational and scientific approach of the world by blurring the lines between past, present, fact and fiction in a mysterious, opaque world.
